What do you see in the
picture to the left? Two
people or a goblet/vase)?
You should see both. Your
changing perception will
allow you to see both...
Perception, the way we see things, is a very fluid human characteristic. That's why one minute you can love a person and the next minute hate them. The person doesn't change, our perceptions do.
When Our Perception Changes our REALITY changes.
This also applies to anything you create whether it is an essay or a piece of art. One moment you can think that what you created is a masterpiece and the next moment you can think it is a piece of dog poo. Experience has taught me to enjoy the good perceptions about the things I do and allow the bad perecptions of my creative and artistic endeavors to pass me by like clouds in the sky.
Several years ago I wrote an article about women taking back their power. I published it on the Internet. Within an hour of publishing it, I received a four page e-mail letter from a woman who tore my article to shreds. Her criticism devastated me for about five minutes.
At the five minute mark, I receive another 4 page letter from another woman. Her letter praised my article as the best ever written on the subject. What changed about the article? Nothing, it was the same article read by two different women who perceived the article very differently. Who was right and who was wrong about the merits of my article? From their own point of view, they were both right. The lesson I learned is this; the different perceptions people have about the creative work we do is part of life therefore we should not take praise or criticism too seriously..
