A Question About Celebrities

Question: Why do so many actors seem to lead such troubled lives? I do acting in our local theater and have considered becoming a professional but I wanted to be mentally prepared before I take that step.

Answer: An actor is someone who pretends a lot. That is what they do when they play roles. They pretend they are someone else and when "pretending" spills over into their real life that is when trouble begins for them. While being a famous actor seems glamorous, it is a very demanding life. Actors have to go to extraordinary lengths to maintain their "privacy" that most people take for granted. The more fame and money you have, the bigger your problems. If you are seeking fame and fortune just be sure you are up to the challenges that will come your way when you finally achieve the success you desire.

  1. You also have to realize that many actors work very, very hard to get that attention. They actively and with great deliberation court the paparazzi. Many have their publicists phone the local news media to let them know exactly where they are at every moment. These are often the same ones who "go ballistic" when the paps cross some unclearly specified line.

Two well-known examples of people who deliberately court/courted the paparazzi: Britney Spears and Princess Diana. Both of them WANTED the paparazzi around - but only until a certain point. They also use/used the paparazzi to make themselves seem victims. Britney especially has a martyr/victim mentality when it comes to the media.
