So, let's be real: There's no cure for depression. At least not one that works for everyone. Medication works a bit, and exercise helps a ton. But none of these things--even lots of meditation--won't get you all the way.
However, in my experience, there are cures (note the plural): complex, sometimes time-consuming combinations of factors that can work together and give you relief.
Here's my depression success story and the particular combination of coping mechanisms that work best for me.
Once upon a time, I was four years old. And even then, I was the serious girl. Nothing wrong with that--my mom called me "sensitive" and my dad said I had a "cute, worried expression." But right before their eyes, and without any of us knowing it, I started, slowly, to withdraw. In the second grade my best friend moved away, and I had very few others as backups. I became shyer and shyer till, caught in the coming-of-age pre-junior high school years (fifth and sixth grades), I was really suffering. I hated how I looked. I had no close friends. At recess I hid in the bathroom or under the schoolyard stairs. I didn't want anyone to see me sitting alone, but I didn't want to talk to anyone and face rejection.
In Junior High School, I realized I had a problem. It wasn't their fault that I was shy; it was mine. I went to a new school, made the same mistakes, and the outcome was the same, too. In the eighth grade, I hid in the bathroom every day, and though I made a few friends, they weren't close. One day I read an article in my inspirational reading of choice--Seventeen magazine--about a girl who realized she had depression. She said that she figured it out after while riding a city bus, she burst into tears for no reason.
That's ridiculous, I thought. I do that all the time. It sounds pretty normal to me.
But the thought sunk in, and soon after that, I realized I was depressed, too.
My first attempt at overcoming depression was a spiritual one. As a fundamentalist Christian, I knew the answer to all pain, all difficulties was faith. I also knew that I wouldn't feel better until I got on the right path, and stayed there. If I only prayed enough, read the Bible enough - really committed to God - I would feel the love and job of knowing him. And the depression would be gone.
The plan didn't succeed.
High school passed in perfectionistic frustration. Then college, then a few lovely years after graduation. My determined mindset helped me get rid of my shyness completely, and pursue a few other goals successfully. I got a job I love--waitressing--as well as a college degree and a house. And I started liking myself a lot more--even how I looked. I gained confidence, but my ultimate goal still eluded me--that of fully overcoming depression.
I still haven't fully overcome it.
And yet, I have overcome a lot of it. Most of it, in fact. And I did it in two major ways. First, I dealt with the basics: I got a job, independence, a few friendships, a place to live. After that, I started refining my methods.
Here is my daily recipe for my mostly happy, sometimes joyful, and always deeply grateful state of mind.
•I exercise most days for at least forty minutes. Sometimes, I exaggerate. Like the other week when I told my friend exercise is a cure for depression. It's not. And yet, it sort of is. Because without my long walks, I'm not sure I'd be able to stay mentally healthy. For me, this is the absolute number one technique I recommend to overcome depression--even more so than spiritual practice. My personal habit is to take long walks with my kids. I often carry the baby and push the two-year-old on the stroller while my five-year old follows on his bicycle.
•I get outside for at least an hour most days. Rain or shine, outside time is a must. I feel better almost as soon as I step out onto the porch. I take the kids to the park or we walk to the store or to a play area. In fact, I almost never drive a car, even though I have one.
•I meditate briefly each day and pursue other spiritual practices. My meditation practice consists of repeating a loving mantra several times for several minutes, or just allowing myself to sit still and notice the thoughts that come, then refocus on my "inner body"--the sensations I feel in my hands and feet and breath. I also try to consult my inner guidance on a daily, sometimes hour by hour basis as I consider what to do next, or what decision to make. This helps me greatly. Finally, when a thought comes that is particularly stressful, I journal it, Byron Katie-style. For more information on all of my spiritual practices, see my Spiritual Practice Success Stories and Depression Success Stories on mollieplayer.com.)
•I limit my junk food intake. Healthy food tastes good, too. It really does. I don't limit fat and I focus on protein and vegetables. (I allow myself a few treats, too.)
•I have hobbies I truly love: reading, writing, and gardening. The value of having at least one endless project cannot be overstated. I love feeling productive, and all three of these hobbies feels valuable and fun. I get the pleasure of the activity itself, plus the knowledge that I'm doing something worthwhile. If you don't have a job, at least get a difficult, long-term, highly involved hobby.
•I keep my house clean. For me, cleaning is relaxing. It gives me a sense of control and order. I love home organization, too.
•I only wear clothes that feel good on my body and that I feel I look good in. This is huge, and took me a long time to learn. I hardly ever wear those "cute" clothes that other people say look good on me. I wear a uniform every day: black pants, a crisp T-shirt and maybe a sweater.
•I keep my weight down. For me, feeling bloated causes anxiety. Though I don't necessarily think extra weight looks bad on other people, I choose to do what it takes to keep my weight down (i.e. diet). For me, the trade-off is worth it.
•I take medication. Does it work? Yeah, a little. This is especially important and helpful in the winter.
•I work hard. I stay busy. Staying busy is huge. Huge! The days fly by, and in the evening you can look forward to a TV show or a good book knowing that you did your work for the day already.
•I do work I love, namely, writing and being a mom. For people with depression, work enjoyment is even more important than for others. I don't make a ton of money, but I wouldn't trade my work lifestyle for anything.
•I spend time with good friends several time per week. Ah, friendship. This is a hard one for me. I'm a busy mom, after all. But I fold my friendship time into my mom time with lots of play dates, and once a month we have family friends over for dinner. Such an uplifting experience.
•I don't over-schedule my days. I try to take things at my own pace, and the pace of good parenting. If you are prone to anger or anxiety, over-scheduling is a huge problem. Though I love to keep busy, I choose projects that I can do at my own pace and on my own schedule. I only schedule one outing per day with the kids, and I make it a life rule to rarely leave the house in the evening. (Family time!)
•I try not to yell at anyone. Conflict is such an emotional drain. Most of my relationship difficulties are handled in a calm, low-key manner. I just hate being in a fight.
•I prioritize sleep. I don't have a TV or computer addiction. In fact, addictions of all kinds scare me. I watch TV a few times a week, and go to bed at the same time my kids do. For alone time, I get a babysitter three times per week.
•I try to do all the little "shoulds" we all have for ourselves, while also trying not to do too much. It is a balance. Such a tricky, precarious balance. But I've found that for me, there's no way around it.
So, the list is long, I know. Maybe even a bit intimidating. Depression is such a huge, demanding thing.
There are no easy answers. But there are answers. And hey--that's better than nothing.
Besides, all this self-improvement stuff? It doesn't just keep my depression at bay. It makes me a better person, too. Most of it is stuff even someone who doesn't have depression would benefit from. The main difference is that I feel I have no choice. Drop the ball on any two of these, and rough days are ahead. It's not a self-pity thing; it's just true.
I do remain hopeful that one day, my depression will be healed entirely. It happened to my dad and many others. Either way, I (mostly) accept myself right where I'm at. This is my life, and it's a good one.
I'm blessed.

Question: Why am I afraid to be happy? (Article)
Answer: You are not the first person who asked me that question and I doubt you will be the last. If you got into the habit, during your growing up years, of surviving by being unhappy, the thought of being happy threatens your survival. It doesn't threaten it on the physical level but it does on the emotional and psychological levels.
Another way of saying this is if your parents were unhappy people, and they were your role models, chances are you will be unhappy too. For people who have not experienced genuine happiness, as an adult, happiness can feel like something outside their comfort zone.
The normal way to be is to feel happy most of the time but most people aren't normal. I would suggest trying being happy for 30 minutes a day and see how that works out for you.
Happiness is your natural state. There is nothing you have to do or have to be happy, you just have to allow yourself to be happy and you will.
Many people are afraid to be happy because they blame happiness as the reason they get hurt unexpectedly or as the reason something bad happens in their lives when they least expect it.
The fact is bad things happen in the world whether you are happy or not so you might as well be happy. For some people being unhappy is the way they protect themselves from being hurt worse. Their logic for protecting themselves by being unhappy goes something like this:
'If I am unhappy and someone hurts me or something bad happens unexpectedly, it won't feel as bad as it would if I was happy and someone hurts me or something bad happened.'
Being unhappy is a vicious circle because being unhappy naturally attracts more unhappiness to you. The fact is, you are used to being unhappy just as some people are used to smoking cigarettes.
You give up unhappiness the same way you give up cigarettes, you just stop. It takes practice to stop one habit of thought and replace it with another. As I suggested earlier, practice being happy for 30 minutes at a time and see how that works out for you.

Rambling SELF-TALK Sets You Free From DEPRESSION
Depression, most often, is the result of unconsciously depressing or squashing certain thoughts and feelings. And since you consciously don't know exactly which thoughts and feelings you are depressing rambling self-talk with set you free from them.
Rambling self-talk is what I call 'stream of consciousness' (S.O.C.) writing. In other words you start writing whatever is on your mind and you write without editing the stuff in your mind. You just let it flow out of your mind onto paper or a computer screen.
As you allow your current truth to flow out of you and onto a computer screen or paper, at some point you will begin to feel lighter and brighter. Why? Because you are fully expressing to yourself all the thoughts and feelings you were afraid to express or thought you couldn't express.
I was chronically depressed for 25 years.
I did therapy, pills, counseling, etc. I did the whole nine yards and nothing cured my depression until I accidentally discovered rambling self-talk. To help you understand what I am talking about, I will give you an example of rambling self-talk from my own life.
What I am about to share with you is a conversation I had with myself in the past when I was stuck with problems on how to turn this blog into a money maker. The conversation I am publicly sharing with you is personal in nature so please respect that fact.
Rambling Self-Talk (RST) doesn't have to make sense or be logical. It is about fully expressing whatever thoughts show up in your mind when you begin to feel frustrated or depressed in any way.
A Rambling Self Talk (RST) Conversation from my PAST.
I have no clue how to make money from my blog. I don't even have a clue how to persuade or influence people to buy my self-help programs and books or support my blog writings with donations. I pretend I do know how but I don't, after trying many different methods, I'm clueless.
While I have been very successful in business offline I am a complete failure online. How anyone makes money off the internet is a mystery to me. I feel like giving up, what's the use. If I can't give people what they want, what good am I.
For Christ sake I post blog entry after blog entry and I don't even receive one comment, not one. Apparently I am so out of touch with people's needs, I should stop this madness and go back to building a business offline where I know what the hell I am doing.
The internet audience is the toughest audience in the world to sell to because you can't see them, talk to them, or hear them. When you sell on the internet you meet a massive wall of silence and you have to guess what people want and if they ain't buying what you are offering them, then it is not what they want.
The overwhelming amount of information on the internet has shortened people attention's span. People today have the attention span of a gnat. They hop from one thing to another as fast as they can. If you can't hook them with your first sentence, they are off and running on to the next web page or web site.
What you read is an excerpt of a rambling self-talk conversation I had with myself. I am sure you get the picture. Let it all out, let it all up, without judging yourself in any way. That way you will have a clearer picture of what is going on in your head and what you can do about it. And more importantly when you let up enough of the thoughts and feelings you were depressing, you won't feel so depressed any more.
Keep in mind the Rambling Self Talk (RST) conversation of mine that you just read opened up the way for me to solve the problems I had with my blog in the past. I no longer have those problems today because RST allowed me to release the suppressed thoughts and feelings that were 'blocking me' from solving my blog problems in the first place.

Feeling Sad, Blue, Depressed WOO HOO!!
The good news about feeling sad, blue or depressed when it seems outside your control is that it is in your control. However, there are some things you must know before you can have control over those feelings.
First off, any time you are feeling negative in a way that you seem to have no control over, that is partly true. That is because what you are experiencing are feelings being produced by thoughts, running on automatic pilot, living in your subconscious mind outside your 'current' conscious control..
The best way to deal with those feelings is to simply FEEL WHAT YOU FEEL....and they will harmlessly pass you by like clouds in the sky. Resisting, debating, wrestling with or arguing with feelings you do not like will only make them stronger... Feeling what you feel will make them dissolve naturally...

Calling All DEPRESSED and SUICIDAL People

I have to be honest with you. I don't know if what you are about to read will be of any help to you or not. However, because I found my way out of 'depression and suicidal hell' after the medical profession failed me, I feel a moral obligation to share with you the information I have acquired that cured me.
At one time I was a very depressed and suicidal person. I was actually that way for a very long time but few people knew it. I felt deep shame. The only thing that stopped me from killing myself was the belief that if I tried, I would fail at that too.
As you know, if you suffer from depression or suicidal thoughts, the last thing you want to do is burden other people with your problems.. You try to put on a 'brave' front' but it is not easy.
If you are like I was, you always feel 'less than' other people. Your strongest desire is to be loved and understood by people but all you end up experiencing is rejection and being misunderstood by others. Your pain of feeling alone and separate from others can be excruciating at times.
You spend a great deal of your life trying to run away from yourself and since you know you can't do that, you do whatever you can to numb your painful, shameful feelings of depression and suicide.
You medicate and sedate your 'feelings' with drugs, pills, food, alcohol or sex. You take whatever you can and you do whatever you can do to make your worthless feelings disappear....
And while you succeed in making your worthless feelings go away for a little while, sometimes as short as a minute or two, they always come back, stronger than before..
How do we come into this world as a happy baby
and end up a depressed and suicidal adult.
The answer is at once simple and complex, the 'forces of life' shape us into the adults we become. The people, circumstances and events of our lives push and shove us 'this way and that' and if we haven't had a chance to find our inner anchor, our inner core, it is easy to be influenced and swept away by the attitudes of people who make us feel less than the magnificent, powerful people we truly are...
WE ALL HAVE A STORY TO TELL THAT LED US TO BECOMING THE DEPRESSED, SUICIDAL PEOPLE WE NEVER WANTED TO BE. THIS IS MY STORY.
The 'forces of life' that shaped me in the beginning was pain. Lots of it, starting when I was six years old and my dad had a nervous breakdown and ended up in the hospital where he was given 'shock' treatments.
When he returned home from the hospital, every time I got angry or upset my mother told me if I didn't stop it immediately, I would send my dad back to the hospital....
My mother's words put the fear of God in me because I adored my dad. The thought I could put my dad back in the hospital by being angry or upset really frightened me. From that point on, I suppressed or denied every negative thing I felt. Over time, suppressing, denying and lying about what I truly felt caused me to begin experiencing bouts of depression along with suicidal thoughts.
As a small boy, the pain of suppressing what I felt was so awful for me, at times, I would lay on my bedroom floor, with the door locked, stabbing myself over and over again with an imaginary knife in the hopes that I could kill off the pain I felt inside of me........
Then, when I was 7 years old (this may sound silly to you) a nun told me if I committed a sin and didn't get to confession before I died, I would go to hell and never see the face of God for all eternity. As soon as you she said that to me, for reasons I cannot explain, I felt like someone had delivered a fatal blow to my solar plexus and I burst into tears, the crying lasted for hours.
It was back then that I, unwittingly, learned how to focus on what I didn't want because I was terrified of going to hell and the awful things the devil would do to a 7 year old boy like me.
I didn't know it at the time but when you focus on what you don't want, you attract more of the same. Not knowing that caused me to attract more pain into my life instead of less.
The pain included being married and divorced twice, once to a woman who literally went crazy on me. She destroyed all my personal possessions and ended up in an mental institution.
In addition to attracting that kind of emotional pain , two of my children died unexpectedly, John at 18 months (a birth defect) and Beth at age 30 (medical negligence). She left four little girls behind ages 8 to 1 1/2 years old. I also attracted into my life two embarrassing bankruptcies.
My life was an endless sea of emotional and physical pain until I decided to use the pain life threw my way to find a new way of thinking. A way of thinking that would set me free from my pain so I could create a life full of joy, inspiration, happiness, success and prosperity. I did just that for myself and you can too.
Today, life is good, it is very, very good to me.
I have no debt whatsoever. I pay for everything with cash even though I have outstanding credit these days. I have excellent health, I take no pills or medication of any kind. And I have been in a loving relationship, the perfect relationship for me, going on nine years now.

The Relationship between Depression and ANGER.
When I was a depressed person I was told my depression was nothing more than anger turned inward. My immediate reaction to being told that was; 'Bullsh*t'. I knew my depression was not anger turned inward, it was depression. I was depressed pure and simple but over time I learned that, indeed, depression in most, if not all, cases is anger turned inward. Let me explain.
Depressed people are very angry people who don't realize they are angry at all. When we experience anger, it means our sense of justice has been violated. Anger is a natural human emotion and when expressed in healthy ways it contributes greatly to our health and prosperity.
Depressed people become depressed because they have no self permission to express anger. OR they are so terrified of their anger they have pushed it so far down inside themselves they feel no anger at all.
As child growing up, you naturally expressed anger from time to time. However, if you were, over time, repeatedly punished, criticized, made fun of, ridiculed or put down because you were angry, you made the decision that it was not safe to be angry....and when you did that, your anger immediately went inward and instead of your anger being expressed outward, you depressed it.
The anger you do not feel and is invisible to you is the very thing that keeps you imprisoned in your chronic state of depression. As you learn to get in touch with and release your anger in healthy ways, you will experience less and less depression until you are free of your depression altogether. Depression is always a result of not having self-permission to freely and fully express yourself.
Regarding depression being a chemical imbalance. That happens because your negative thoughts cause the chemistry in your body to become unbalanced.

Quit making DEPRESSION a Big Deal.... (The CURE)

The more you make anything a big deal, the more strength and power it gains over you. The more you believe your depression is more powerful than you are, the more power your depression has over you. I was diagnosed as clinically and chronically depressed. I did the whole trip, therapy and pills and the more I followed the traditional route, looking for a cure, the worse my depression got for me UNTIL I quit making a big deal out of my depression...
I did that by becoming the OBSERVER of my depression rather than the STORY TELLER of my depression. I made depression disappear from my life by taking back the power I had given depression to depress me. If you want to know how I made depression completely disappear from my life take my Self-Love Thought Mastery Program. I have been 'depression-free' for over 30 years....
If you suffer from depression you know the pain you feel and you know how depression sucks all the joy and happiness out of your life and makes you feel like you are flawed or defective in some way. That's the way it was for me until I became the OBSERVER of my depression. In becoming the 'observer' of my depression, a new way of thinking came over me that set me free of depression and allowed me to feel good, no matter what. As a result of becoming depression free I started writing a twice monthly newsletter sharing with others what I know about making depression disappear from their lives.
I understand depressed people better than most. Suffering from depression is bad enough but their are many other things we suffer from when we are depressed. We suffer from a lack of confidence. We experience a lack of love in our life and experience incredible loneliness. We are full of self doubt and feel insecure a lot of the time. We feel we have to hide our depression from others.
In addition, we experienced being judged and criticized by others more than most. Depressed people are hyper sensitive. As a result, we easily pick up on other people's negative emotions which only makes us feel more depressed. Often times we feel suicidal, not because we want to end our life but because we want the pain of our loneliness, separation and shame to end.
As a former depressed person, I know depressed people have a hard time making decisions. They have a harder time taking action and because they have been disappointed so many times in finding a cure for their depression, they are a very skeptical bunch of people. These are my kind of people because I have been where they are at. I understand what they are going through and I understand what it takes to become depression free. I also know depressed people can't quit being depressed until they create a new personality for themselves. A personality that reflects the best side of themselves, the most expressive side of themselves that dissolves, for all time, the depressed side of their personality.

Life is EASY when you change your Thinking

The Story behind Feeling Good (No Matter What) Newsletter.
The events of my early life (which included death, financial ruin and lost love) left me feeling anxious and worried most of the time. The events made me doubt and distrust myself. In addition, I allowed those events to put me into a chronic state of depression that no amount of pills or therapy could cure.. At that point, in my life, I could have quit, given up. I could have even committed suicide but I didn't.
Instead, I used what life threw my way to motivate myself to find a new way of thinking, a way of thinking that would set me free to create a life full of joy, inspiration, happiness and success. I did just that for myself .... and from my experience of turning bad feelings into good ones, my Feeling Good, No Matter What, Newsletter was born. The information in my newsletter is not based on academic theory.
The information is based on the personal experiences of myself and thousands of others in regards to 'what works' in mastering negative emotions and transforming them into positive ones.
Science has proven your brain translates every thought you think into a chemical equivalent and then delivers those chemicals by way of a 'messenger molecule' to the major organs in your body. The implication of this discovery are enormous and explains, in simple terms, why you feel the way you do.
Positive thoughts get translated into good chemicals that make you feel good and negative thoughts get translated into to bad chemicals that make you feel bad.
Why is the information about your brain's ability to translate your thoughts into chemical equivalents important for you to know?
Because my newsletter delivers 'cutting edge' insights to you, twice a month, that not only strengthen you mentally and emotionally, they also result in your brain automatically translating those thoughts into there chemical equivalents that cause you experience increased levels of energy, vitality and physical stamina.

If you suffer from depression, you need to read the LIES about Depression.

Disclaimer: The information contained in this blog post is for educational purposes only. This message is posted with the understanding that the author is not engaged in rendering medical advice or mental health therapy of any kind. If you have a medical condition that requires immediate attention, please contact your doctor or your local healthcare practitioner. If you decide to apply any of the information in this message to your own life, which is your constitutional right to do so, the author is not responsible for the consequences of your actions.
Whether you realize it or not, you have been told many LIES about depression by well meaning but misguided people. In order for depression to disappear from your life, without pills, drugs or therapy, you have to learn what those lies are and replace them with the truth. This is a start for you.
To feel depressed from time to time is normal. To remain depressed is abnormal. The thing that causes people to remain depressed is they resist and fight their depressed feelings rather than allowing their depressed feelings to harmlessly pass out of their body the way a baby passes gas.
Contrary to what the experts will tell you, depression is not caused by a chemical imbalance. A chemical imbalance is a result of the thoughts you are thinking that are causing you to feel depressed in the first place. Science has proven our thoughts have a profound, even lethal effect, on our body chemistry. Negative thoughts depress the body chemistry while positive thoughts strengthen the body chemistry.
You feel what you feel for a reason, including feeling depressed. And the reason you feel what you feel is ultimately always for your good. Once you discover what that reason is, the troublesome feelings of depression will disappear from your life with no effort at all.
That all being said, when you are grateful for feeling depressed, rather than resisting those feelings, your depressed feelings will literally go POOF. My daily gratitude messages explain how being grateful for your feelings of depression allow your depressed feelings to surface and evaporate into thin air...
Taking pills to medicate and sedate your depressed feelings does not heals them and does not allow you to hear the messages of guidance and advice your depressed feelings are sending your way.
In life we are either fully expressing ourselves or depressing ourselves. Depressed people have lost their voice to fully express themselves, that's why they are depressed.
What gives depression power over you is your fear of it. Your fear of your depression is a result of errors in your thinking. Once you understand what those errors in thinking are, you will eliminate your fear of depression and once that happens, eliminating depressed feelings from your life will be no trouble at all.
If depression is an issue for you and you want to learn how to use 'gratitude' to make abnormal depression disappear from your life, sign up for my free daily gratitude messages today.

Forgiveness CURES Depression (Believe it or Not)
.
Before you can forgive yourself for something that is making your life miserable, you first must understand what it means to forgive yourself:
Forgive means to:
1. grant pardon for an offense ; to absolve; to set free from punishment. 2. to cease to feel resentment towards yourself or others. When you forgive yourself you are set free to create the life you want rather than being filled with feelings of depression, frustration, anxiety, fear. anger and dislike that stop you from creating your little piece of heaven on earth. The unwillingness to forgive yourself for the negative thoughts and emotions you feel make those 'nasty thoughts and feelings' stick to you like SUPER GLUE. The more you resist what you feel, the more those feelings grow in strength and power over you. Instead of resisting depression, every time you feel depressed, forgive yourself for feeling that way.
If you forgive yourself for feeling depressed when you do, the depression you are experiencing will disappear from your life with no effort at all. Forgiving yourself daily when feeling depressed along with forgiving yourself for anything else that makes you feel bad will dissolve your depression all together...
I forgive myself for feeling depressed.
I forgive myself for not being able to forgive myself for feeling depressed.
I forgive myself for thinking thoughts that depress me.
I forgive myself for resisting my depression and making it worse.
I forgive myself for depressing my thoughts and feelings rather than fully expressing them.
I forgive myself for thinking thoughts of hopelessness, helplessness and suicide.
I forgive myself for not being as emotionally strong as I would like to be.
I forgive myself for not loving myself enough.
I forgive myself for not accepting myself exactly as I am.
I forgive myself for disliking and hating myself.
I forgive myself for beating myself up when I fail
I forgive myself for not being perfect.......
That's a start..... now add your personal forgiveness lines.

What you BELIEVE about your depression determines whether you will be depressed for the rest of your life or not. Depression is not a disease unless you believe it is and for you it will be. That's the way disease latches on to you, through your beliefs. The excerpt below comes from an interview Tony Robbins did with Dr. Bernie Siegel about the power of your BELIEFS. - Frederick Zappone, Author: Feel Good Newsletter

Quickest way out of Depression
.
Resisting depression makes it persist, being scared of
your depression makes it persist even longer. The quickest
way through depression is to 'feel what you feel' when you
feel it. If you do that, your depression will harmlessly
pass you by like dark clouds in the sky.
